Zsolt Varga: “This has never happened in my career”

The Hungarian men’s water polo team lost to the host team 14-13 after the last four and a half minutes of the bronze medal match was replayed after the Americans were warned and left to stand.

Salt Varga The national team team originally won the match after 13-13 with shots from five meters, but the USA team saved the match, because after the show, the referees allowed one of the Hungarian players to return to the water early. The warning was upheld, so the last 4:24 minutes of the match had to be replayed two hours after the referee’s whistle, and only during that time did the Americans score a goal, making the final score 14-13, and the bronze medal went to the hosts.

This doesn’t happen often, certainly not in my career. Obviously it’s in the rules that can be protected in this case, and they protected it. And I might say that the replayed four and a half minutes was not necessarily done in the spirit of fair play, especially not in light of what had happened up until then. For example, the legitimacy of the final corner was recognized afterwards. That’s all we can take with us instead of the bronze medal.

– Rated by On the National Association’s website Salt Varga. He added that the underlying psychological state contributed to their inability to win the rematch.

What I can say about the current mood of the players is that they are mature men who can take the blows that come with life, and at the same time, if you lose a game you previously won in such circumstances, you have to live with it. And do not suppress anything

he added.
According to the captain, the tournament served their goals well because they were able to evaluate what works and what doesn’t in their game, and against teams with different styles.

In fact, our performance has been very inconsistent so far, the defense was great on the first day, and our attack finally kicked in on the last day, but I stress again that this World Cup was about seeing what we still have to work on. We have two more weeks, and now comes the optimization part, where everyone will know exactly when we need to do what we need to do. Life takes something somewhere and puts it back somewhere, and I hope it’s no different with us
