May 28th is International Hamburger Day. On this special occasion, we have brought you the five best hamburger restaurants in the world.
Many people consider the hamburger to be one of the national foods of Americans, although it actually originates from the German city of Hamburg, where similar sandwiches were eaten already in the 19th century. The first classic American hamburger was made in New Haven in 1895, but very special versions can also be tasted in other parts of the world. For example, only one American restaurant is among the five best hamburger restaurants in the world, and the best hamburger is made in Australia.
5. La Birra Bar – Buenos Aires, Argentina (now also Miami and Madrid)
Originally opened in Buenos Aires, the family business has long been a favorite with Argentines, and in 2021 became the first Argentine burger chain to establish itself in the United States. The restaurant opened its doors on Biscayne Street in North Miami Beach. Accepted as their own, the family is obsessed with making burgers: They produce everything from hand-cut beef to pickles in order to create the perfect burger.
4. BAP – Burger and Pastrami – Stockholm, Sweden
The restaurant, which opened in 2017, quickly stole the hearts of locals and quickly became Stockholm’s favorite hamburger joint. The snack bar didn’t go bankrupt due to the coronavirus pandemic either, and what’s more, last year it rose to new heights with its imaginative creations like “Truffle Trouble” or “BBQ Swey.” Tender and juicy burgers are served with crispy french fries.
3. Jake’s Burger – Auckland, New Zealand
To sample one of the most eye-catching hamburgers in the world, we have to travel all the way to New Zealand. Jake’s burgers get their buns from local bakeries, their bacon is marinated for seven days, and their beef patties made with Wagyu and Angus beef based on a special recipe are smoked locally using applewood. There’s no better view than lean, but tender beef swimming in cheese and stuffed into a soft, buttery brioche.
2. Midcity Smashburger – Portland, Oregon, United States
This New Orleans shop prides itself on the best and freshest burgers in Portland, USA. Although at first glance it is nothing more than meat, cheese and sauce in a bag, its flavor world is heaven itself. Two thin and crispy pieces of beef are pressed under a cast-iron press, slices of American cheese are placed on top, then drizzled with a thick sauce made according to the chef’s unique recipe, and finally placed between the bread. All this for as little as $6 two thousand forints at today’s exchange rate. The simple but delicious food specialty is such a hit in Portland that its burgers are sold in four additional locations, including bars and restaurants called Level Beer, Cartside Food Pod, Uptown Brewing, and Boneyard Beer.
1. Royal Stakes – Melbourne, Australia
Royal Stax Melbourne is a classic and amazing hamburger restaurant, which has long been known not only by locals, but also by gourmet tourists who fly there. However, this is the first time that the fast food restaurant has been transformed into the best in the world. One reason is that it has moved to a brand new, popular and trendy location, the Emporium Shopping Centre, where guests can choose from 13 different scrumptious cakes, stuffed with cheese and served with a variety of fries, from traditional French fries to mini cheese croquettes.
