Since the mid-2000s, the average age of the Hungarian automobile fleet has been gradually increasing. The best results were achieved in 2006 and 2007, when the average age of the car fleet was just over 10.3 years. However, a decade later – in 2017 – he was over fourteen years old. The latest data is from 2021, when the Hungarian cars were 15 years old. (Data for 2022 will only be announced at a later date.) Totalcar asked KSH for detailed data on how they aggregate the average 15-year-old, that is, in what age group, how much and what type of car you belong to, the results speak for themselves.
Before last year, there were just over 4 million (4,020,159 units) cars in circulation. The percentage of children under the age of five reached 16 percent, or 644,000 people, belonging to this category. In the next group are children between the ages of 6 and 15, and this simply applies to every third car, since that’s a group of 1.4 million. The oldest class, over 16 years of age, is the most populous, with nearly 2 million, and is 48 percent of the entire fleet.
Brands and ages
That’s the big picture, but the segmentation by brands is really interesting. In the Under 5 league, Suzuki is in first place, Toyota in second, and Skoda in third. The top ten also includes Opel, Ford, Volkswagen, Dacia, Kia, Renault and Mercedes.
|Brand||Number of old cars 0-5 years (units)|
For kids ages 6 to 15, Opel ranks first, followed by Ford, Volkswagen, and Suzuki in fourth place in this category. The composition of the top ten in this age group changes to the extent that BMW, Audi and Peugeot have entered, while Dacia, Mercedes and Renault have pulled out.
|Brand||Number of cars from 6 – 15 years (unit)|
Among the oldest, Opel also plays a leading role with approximately 283,000 vehicles. Suzuki is in second place with a quarter of a million, and Volkswagen is in third place with 221,000. In addition, there are more than 100,000 Renaults in circulation over the age of 16. Toyota, Peugeot, Skoda, Fiat and Audi remain below 100,000.
|Brand||Number of vehicles older than 16 years (unit)|
Detailed data for those over 16 years old shows that, for example, more than 9,000 Trabants and about 4,200 Wartburgs were registered. In addition, 105 Rolls-Royces from this era add color to the color palette.
