Total Car - Magazine - Audi's latest study of Urban, but it's not small

By city car we usually mean smaller models, but this is not the case with the Audi Urban Concept. With a length of 5.5 meters, a wheelbase of 3.4 meters, a width of 2 meters and a height of 1.78 meters, it is a true behemoth that treats the interior truly extravagant.

The study car of the Beijing Auto Show has only four large armchairs, so it has an amazing back space. Audi seems to be improving that there will always be a traffic jam in temporary cities in the future, so if you have to get out, you can have a good time in the car, or at least have a good time.

It’s possible to drive the Urbansphere, but it’s not mandatory, because it will drive itself — Audi says it will use the Level 4 system — and there’s more room inside because it wraps the steering wheel behind the car’s dashboard. For front seat passengers, the information is displayed on a display across the entire width of the instrument panel. At the back, on the one hand, there are screens built into the backs of the front seats, and on the other hand, a large, transparent OLED screen that can stick out from the roof. The electronics functions can mostly be used with the controls on the armrests, but most can also be used with gesture and voice control to still be available with the backrest tilted back.

In addition to the wide range of displays, the interior is not overdone: we find shades of gray and beige in the car, the surfaces are covered with non-chemical surface-treated wood and bamboo inserts, and recycled polyamide fabric upholstery.

While Urbansphere’s plans are clearly based on self-management, where they can be controlled, their artistic content isn’t entirely uninteresting either. The personal protective equipment, developed by Audi and Porsche, was developed on the basis of a two-engine version. The maximum total power is 401 horsepower, and the 120 kWh battery built into the floor can be enough for a distance of up to 750 km. The electrical system, of course, is 800 volts and allows for a very fast charging: there is talk of a peak of 270 kW and that enough electricity in 300 minutes can be replaced in 10 minutes if a suitable fast charger is available.

K Sky Ambassador and the GrandsphereThe Urbansphere also sets out to see further, but it also includes a lot of details that may appear on Audi models in the upcoming series. This is an interesting lighting concept, which partially replaces the grille with an array of LED light sources at the front, but we also find a similar one at the rear of the car.
