They tested if an i9-13900K and RTX 4090 gamer’s PC could survive the Ice Age

Since it registered cold in China, someone was wondering how well a high-end gaming PC would do in -53 degree weather.

It’s no secret that high-end processors and video cards perform at their best when properly cooled. This is especially true if one wants to overdo it. This is why the type of cooling used in a PC is becoming more and more important these days. In China, that cap has now been exceeded, and out in the open.

Good news: A serious gamer’s PC will work even in the Ice Age.

At least that’s what came out of a test conducted by Chinese content producer “苏打 baka”. It made a powerful PC for gamers with an Intel Core i9-13900K processor and a very cool NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. Some regions of China are now experiencing the coldest temperatures in recent decades, so the machine was able to show what it can do below -53 degrees Celsius. The plane appears to be fine.

This is great news for those who plan to get through the next ice age with games. By the way, the AIO 360mm cooler stopped working, the liquid froze. Switching to air cooling, using a combination of high-end fans and a Noctua NH-P1 passive heatsink, the CPU ran around 10-15 degrees – which is nice considering it’s not unusual for a stress-tested Intel Core i9-13900K to heat up. It is much higher than 90 degrees. The CPU has been overclocked to 6.18GHz.

In the case of the RTX 4090, the result is even more impressive, staying below 30 degrees even at -40 degrees. Of course, the frost eventually caused all the cables to become icy, which was a bit unsettling.

So it’s not so bad for the device if there is no heating, right?
