They are not told that the economy is collapsing: millions of Romanians are emigrating

According to the Romanian Prime Minister, the entire political community after the regime change is responsible for the fact that the number of Romanians who have emigrated from their homeland and are looking for prosperity abroad is now approaching 6.5 million.

Marcel Ciulacu spoke about this on Thursday at the RePatriot Summit, a business conference targeting Romanians living abroad, where Romanian businessmen and company managers living abroad meet potential Romanian partners.

The Prime Minister confirmed that more than three million Romanians immigrated between 2008 and 2022 alone.

He noted that although there is no precise data on Romanians living abroad, and analysts also work with different estimates, if the 1.2 million people who emigrated from Moldova are included, their number is now close to 6.5 million. He estimated it as follows: This is a huge loss, even if Romanians living abroad send an amount equivalent to 2% of GDP, that is, 6.5 billion euros, to Romania to support the family members they left behind.

“We are losing not only the added value, but also the future of Romania, as young people who work and develop abroad today are starting families abroad,” the Prime Minister noted. Noting that the average age of the Romanian community living in Great Britain, Italy and Spain is 31-33 years.
