The transgender deputy minister has been installed as a four-star admiral

The Daily Wire wrote that President Joe Biden had named transgender Rachel Levine “the first four-star admiral in the US Public Health Service (USPHS).”

Rachel (born Richard) is a pediatrician, Levine, father of two, previously served as Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health from 2015 to 2017. With Joe Biden’s appointment in January, he became the first transgender federal official to be confirmed in the US Senate.

HHS has issued a notice regarding the appointment

“The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today publicly announced the nation’s first four-star transgender officer among eight US armed forces. Admiral Rachel Levine, who serves as HHS Deputy Secretary of State and Chair of the US Public Health Services (USPHS) , formally sworn in as a four-star admiral.

Admiral Levine is now a senior USPHS official and the first four-star admiral. Admiral Levine will command the 6,000 officers of the Public Health Service dedicated to serving the most vulnerable and vulnerable populations in our nation. Today’s historic announcement builds on the results of a historic LGBTQ+ month and is an important step forward in our work to create a more inclusive community.”

– says HHS in a press release on Tuesday. In response to Levine’s appointment, he celebrated the event as a step toward a “more inclusive future.”

“I am honored to serve as the first four-star female officer in the United States Public Health Service and the first transgender female four-star officer in one of eight armed corps. This is an important occasion and I am delighted to take on this role because of the impact I can have and the historical nature that it symbolizes. I hope that This appointment is the first of many appointments to create a more inclusive future.” He said.

His boss, Minister of Health, Xavier Becerra, welcomed the news
