US President Joe Biden stressed in a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United States, along with its allies and partners, is ready to respond decisively if Russia continues to attack Ukraine.

According to the White House, the leaders discussed joint diplomatic efforts for European security, and President Biden expressed “US support for efforts to resolve the conflict in the Normandy format.” The statement said that the US President expressed his hope that the commitment of the parties on January 26 under the terms of the ceasefire in July 2020 will help ease tensions and advance the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Negotiations were held in the Normandy format for a negotiated peaceful settlement of the Donetsk Basin crisis. The so-called Normandy Four – Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France – signed the Minsk Accords in February 2015, but full implementation is still pending.
