big changes American Forbes In the list of the 100 most influential women: After a long time, the German chancellor is not the first, many are newcomers, too.
The selection shows that an increasing number of women occupy important positions of power: the 100 women list includes 40 chief executives, 19 heads of state and immunologists. The number of CEOs is now the highest since 2015, with the women on the list holding over $3.3 trillion in assets. It is true that there are more and more women in business, but in other areas their percentage has decreased, for example, there are fewer women in the head of state this year than in the previous year.
Changes in the vanguard
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been number one only three times in the list’s eighteen-year history. The editors noted Merkel’s imminent retirement and chose the new first place in the character of billionaire philanthropist Mackenzie Scott.
According to American Forbes calculations, she is the third richest woman in the world, and her determination to donate her vast fortune in a purposeful and revolutionary way convinced the jury to put the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos in first place.
In second place was Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, who rose one place from last year after being sworn in. He has swapped places with Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank, and is now in third place.
It wasn’t just with great wealth or power that could be added to the list. Co-founder of Biontech Immunology, Özlem Torresy, is one of twenty newcomers this year who also made his debut this year. He was added to the list not only because he was a co-founder of the biotech company, but also because, along with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, he was involved in developing the mRNA covid vaccine. Catalin Cariko also played an important role in the latter. Karikó has been together for eight years with Turkish and German couple Özlem Turisi and Ugur Şahin, who founded and own the biotech company.
