Heartbreaking
The time travel feature can cause heartbreaking moments for the tech giant’s software.
When Mike Doyle of Liverpool, England clicked on Google Street View’s time travel feature, he wasn’t quite expecting to see something that would instantly sink his heart. The “discovery” affected not only him deeply, but also his followers on social media: a Google car took a picture of his grandparents – three years before his grandmother died. The man commented on his picture, saying: “My grandfather is still alive today, at the age of 90, and he will be happy when I show him this.”

“My grandmother passed away in 2015. So it’s nicer that Google Maps recently added a feature that lets you view old street photos — like this one he walked on with my grandfather in 2012. My grandfather is still alive today and he’s 90, and he’ll be so happy when I show him this,” reads the man’s full post. Of course, right away there were hundreds who also tried it, and there were those who came back with a similar experience.
“Thanks for posting this, I just wrote my old address and my dad is on a ladder outside the house, he’s been missing him for almost 8 years and it made my day awesome!” wrote one commenter.
