The presidency of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation (MRSZ) relieved Robert Koch, captain of the Hungarian men’s national team, of his duties.
According to the MRSZ statement, the Presidency – after not accepting the report of the captain of the national team – used the termination option included in the contract.
“By unanimous decision, the MRSZ Presidency decided to terminate the appointment of the captain of the national team, and at the same time requests the MRSZ General Secretary to terminate the employment relationship with ordinary notice, in accordance with the rules of the employment contract,” the website states.
In the MRSZ statement, President Ferenc Kirsch said: The aim of the association is to return men’s discipline to the path of success after so long along a new professional concept, and wants to make a substantive decision on Robert Koch. succeed him during the next Board of Directors meeting.
Koch has run the national team since February 2020, which he won a bronze medal in 2021 and fourth place in the silver division of the European League this year. In the first season, the Hungarians first lost 3-1 to the Danes in the semi-finals in the final four-way match in Skopje, then won the bronze against the Croats with an impressive 3-2 victory.
In the last four matches of this year in Budapest, they first lost to the Romanians easily 3-0, and then in the third place match they also lost to North Macedonia in a big fight.
Under Koch, the team competed in two qualifying matches for the European Championship, but had no realistic chance of qualifying: last May, they finished third in their qualifying group behind the Portuguese and Belarusians, while this year Koch’s team also finished third.
