Next week, the number of desktop operating systems supported by Microsoft will be reduced to two, after the Redmond software giant hands off Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.

Nothing lasts forever in computing – this is true of software as well as hardware. Microsoft will permanently discontinue all three operating systems, Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1, in a matter of days – next Tuesday, January 10th. Moreover, extended support for the first has already ended.

All of this means that from this day forward, Microsoft will no longer provide critical updates or technical support for the three systems.

But that’s not all, because As mentioned earlier by GoogleAlso, in February, the last 109 version of the Chrome browser for Windows 7 and 8 / 8.1 will also be released, after which users of operating systems will no longer be able to expect updates for versions released in 2009 and 2012 (in the case of 8.1 in 2013). All this does not mean that the browser will suddenly become unusable, but in the long run, those who do not migrate to a newer operating system and therefore a modern browser may encounter security and compatibility issues.

In addition, Microsoft’s own browser, Edge also says goodbye to these: Version 109, expected to arrive on January 12, will also be the final release for systems.

Such as BGR He wrote, there is only one solution: upgrade to a newer system, Windows 10 or 11. There is a good chance that older hardware will not meet the system requirements for the latter, but it is likely that Windows 10 will be installed, which will be supported for years to come. The minimum system requirements can be relatively adequate for this: 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 1GHz processor, and at least a DirectX 9-enabled video card are required.

If your computer does not meet these requirements, it is recommended to replace it: those who use operating systems that are no longer supported not only miss out on the new functionality of newer systems, but also put their private data at risk due to missing security updates.
