Shanghai scientists have captured another image of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Messier 87 galaxy, 55 million light-years from Earth. With the image, we can get closer to understanding how black hole radiation is generated.

Scientists at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory have created the world’s first image showing powerful radiation from the event horizon of a black hole towards outer space. The scientific publication on this topic has been published before nature announce.

the Watchman I mentioned that the image was taken from the supermassive black hole in the center of the Messier 87 galaxy. This is the black hole that was recorded for the first time in the world a few years ago, and whose analysis confirmed an earlier theory of Albert Einstein.

The current observation can help reveal how these rays, which are among the brightest objects in the universe, are formed.

According to Zsuszen Lu, a scientist at the Foundation, in order to be able to study it, they have to observe the phenomenon. The current image was taken during an observation in 2018. The supermassive black hole at the center of Messier 87 is 6.5 billion times more massive than the Sun and is located about 55 million light-years from our planet.

Researchers believe that the radiation is caused by the rotation of the black hole. The current picture has not yet revealed exactly where the radiation is originating from. However, they are good for determining the position of the ring in relation to the radiation from the black hole.
