An Emirati satellite working on Mars has received a lens on the night side of the planet, the type of polar light that scientists have been trying to spot for years.

Although in the last days and NASA, And the At the rallies of the Chinese Space Agency We can hear more, and it doesn’t hurt to remember: the UAE satellite is also on the Red Planet. Mars Hope orbits the planet, collecting data on it, but also taking pictures with his camera. Now just something really special.

For the first time, researchers have been able to deliver Martian polar light to the lens with the help of the structure, writes IFLScience.

Mars Hope reached Mars in February 2021, and instruments quickly stabbed the polar light that scientists have been trying to observe and study for years.

To do this, it is important to know that there are three types of polar lights on Mars. One on the sunny side and two in the night sky. One is caused by solar storms and lights up the entire night sky, while the other happens less frequently and is still visible only in certain places. The latter is what the satellite photographed.

Observations were made by the satellite on April 22, 23 and 6, 2021, and three distinct, well-detectable lights were detected.

What is special is that, unlike what we see on Earth, polar light can develop here in other parts of the planet. This is due to the fact that the planet has a rare atmosphere and no magnetic field, so it can appear almost anywhere.

The UAE satellite is designed to study the atmosphere of Mars, so it’s easy to imagine we’ll still be able to see such recordings from the spacecraft in the future.
