Blavity Inc. Announces Ashley Blaine Featherson and Initial Featured Speakers at its 2019 Summit 21 Conference, The Largest Influencer Conference for Multicultural Women
In its Fourth Year, Summit 21 Will Bring Together Black Female Influencers, Entrepreneurs and Bosses Including Robin Thede, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Melissa Butler and more to arm Attendees with Resources to Cultivate the Fullest Version of her Life
Blavity Inc. announced today an initial lineup of featured speakers for its annual women’s conference, Summit 21, an IRL experience to support the thriving digital community on the company’s women’s lifestyle media outlet, 21Ninety. This 2-day culminating experience guides attendees to their greatest vision for their lives and provides actionable steps towards making that a reality. Through engaging masterclasses and fireside chats, Summit 21 provides hands-on experience with the brightest and most inspiring leaders and innovators in our community. This year, Summit 21 will take place in the heart of Downtown Atlanta, June 7th – 8th at AmericasMart Atlanta.
Ashley Blaine Featherson (Dear White People), Robin Thede (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Melissa Butler (CEO, The Lip Bar), Lilly Workneh (Editor-In-Chief of Blavity News) and Congresswoman Barbara Lee are also speaking on various topics including Boss Moms, Retail, Manufacturing and more.

Ashley Blaine Featherson – Ashley Blaine Featherson is an actress, producer and content creator from Gaithersburg, Maryland. She currently stars as Joelle Brooks on the critically acclaimed Netflix Original Series ‘Dear White People’.
Robin Thede – Robin Thede is a comedian and writer who is currently the creator, executive producer and star of the upcoming sketch comedy series, A Black Lady Sketch Show (HBO). Prior, she created, executive produced and hosted the critically acclaimed late night show, The Rundown with Robin Thede (BET). Prior, she was the head writer & a correspondent for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore (Comedy Central) and head writer for the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner, making her the first African-American woman head writer in late night and for the WHCD. She has appeared in dozens of TV shows and movies, including Difficult People, Key & Peele, A Haunted House, Goodwin Games and many more. She is featured in the upcoming feature film, Bad Hair, by director/writer Justin Simien.
Congresswoman Barbara Lee – Barbara Jean Lee is the U.S. Representative for California’s 13th congressional district, serving since 1998. She is a member of the Democratic Party. The district, numbered as the 9th District from 1998 to 2013, is based in Oakland and includes most of northern Alameda County. She is the first woman to represent this district.
Melissa Butler – Melissa Butler, is a Detroit native who has strategically launched start-up beauty brand, The Lip Bar, into a nationwide phenomenon. Her journey from stocks and bonds to beauty is one that she describes as natural, not because she loved makeup, but because she was frustrated with the industry and therefore created a solution. She hated traditional beauty brands and their linear approach of beauty and excessive amounts of chemicals. “Everyone deserves to have representation. Without it, we are left seeking validation” she says. It was her belief in health and inclusion that lead her to make lipstick in her kitchen and develop the vegan line, The Lip Bar. Her goal is to empower women everywhere of all ages, races and body types to be confident in their own skin and remember that they are enough!
