Semmelweis ranked 277th best university in the world in THE . list

Instead of nine last year, 11 Hungarian universities have already entered the world rankings recently published by the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine in 2022, the Parliamentary and Strategic State Minister of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology said on a Facebook page on Thursday.

With this, he added, the Medical University of Budapest, which changed its model this year, achieved the second largest improvement in ranking among European universities.

There is still something to be proud of, he said, as the range of Hungarian universities that have achieved a good position so far has expanded with two paradigm changes, the University of Óbuda and the University of Pannonia. He added that Semmelweis University came in the most prominent position among Hungarian institutions.

University of Eötvös Loránd (places 601-800), University of Pécs, University of Debrecen and University of Szeged (places 801-1000) are included in the first millennium.

The foreign minister emphasized that the development of higher education continues, with base amounts doubling compared to 2014, and in 2021 approximately 1.2% of GDP will be spent on universities, compared to the EU average of 0.8%. He added that by 2022, the 650 billion euro higher education budget, supplemented by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and the $310 billion annual framework for science parks, already represents 1.7 percent of GDP.
