Prairie View A&M Marching Storm To Appear At Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade
Thanksgiving is approaching which means the 91st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is almost here. One HBCU band will head to the Big Apple and appear in the national holiday parade hand selected from 175 applicants. Prairie View A&M Marching Storm will appear in this year’s parade as one of the ten bands to perform.
“Our students and band staff are excited that we will get to perform for a national – even international- audience. They have worked hard all year and this is certainly a culminating event to a great year for our program,” said band director Dr. Timmey Zachery. The marching band has been preparing for over a year for this performance so this will be a sight to see in New York. The Marching Storm will also appear in the 2018 Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. Zachery added, “It’s a banner year for us. We’re always trying to make our students better and trying to prepare them for the real world.”
The creative director for the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Wesley Whatley says the “New York audiences expect musical acts with big sound and incredible energy on Thanksgiving morning, and Macy’s Band Selection Committee is confident our crowds will be blown away in 2017 as we proudly introduce the Big Apple to the Prairie View A&M University Marching Storm.” The 91st Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd at 9 a.m. If you are in the New York area, you do not want to miss this year’s band performances especially from the mighty Marching Storm.
