The rule of the Taykan is exciting
The first thing that appears when driving is that the Taycan is very spacious. The country roads around Rome are very narrow, so you have to stop if a truck comes in front of you.
In normal mode, the Taycan GTS is like trying to completely hide its capabilities. Quiet, light and soft. He tries not to disturb the passengers in any way. Then, of course, in Sport and Sport Plus modes, it tightens your muscles step by step, responding faster and more directly.
In normal and long range driving modes, the first electric motor is almost completely turned off or de-energized in the partial-load range, and there is no driving torque on either axle during drift. This is good for power consumption, so the GTS is the first Taycan to travel up to 500 kilometers on a single charge, but switching from a conventional car is a bit strange as there is not only an engine brake when picking up gas, but also the car barely decelerates. We fall to infinity.
Its steering is very direct, and the car immediately responds to the slightest movement. It turns out to be an absolute sports car, it behaves. The weight of the car is not felt in the traditional sense, but there is clearly material in it because the body is very solid. It feels like a block of concrete.
GTS can reach 100 steps in 3.7 seconds
We were also able to see this on the racetrack when we circled it in Vallelunga. He surprisingly endured torture, more secure than the Panamera who tried to compare. It was surprisingly fast in corners, shooting instantly on every acceleration. Torque Control solves just about everything, with no understeer or excessive steering when pulled, pushed forward, or pushed back when needed. I instructed my feet to go and the car did it. It was tacky, but it was as if he had been pulled on a rail.
Only the brakes gave up on the lesson. In such use, switching between electric and conventional disc brakes is too abrupt, causing the tires to lock up twice during the braking distance. Of course, I doubt many people are planning to bid with the Taycan. Especially since the sound is missing and there is no smell after the heartbeat, the cooling exhaust does not bounce. Only the tires heat up.
The Taycan GTS performs well, the value on the speedometer is growing rapidly, but the car is so advanced that our heart rate does not rise. It is also suitable for German highways, it bounces about 150 with sufficient power. What makes acceleration from a standstill exciting is the transmission. With a small break in the dynamics when shifting into second gear and then rushing it back with a kick, it fills the driver with a familiar feeling.
What is really exciting is its structure. Brilliant. This was my first international driving test in the last 20 years, where we were able to drive on a similarly bad surface as the local side roads. But I didn’t mind the lack of the usual soft-mirror roads, the Taycan GTS didn’t pick it up, it easily went through several holes while keeping the Chestnut perfectly stable in a serpentine bend. We can easily throw the car into turns, turn anywhere faster than we think.
