Netflix is tired of users sharing their passwords with others.
It is already common in Hungary for families or groups of friends to share their Netflix subscription password with others.
The service provider has been trying to filter this for a long time, but so far they haven’t been able to come up with the proper penalty to discourage people. During registration, the company used to draw attention to the fact that sharing passwords with people who do not live in the same house goes against the rules, but no one takes it seriously.

Netflix has already taken steps to stop this, but it looks like they’re going to tighten it up now.

Anyone using an account with password sharing, despite the obvious caveat, will have to pay an additional fee to stream.
According to the page, it will look like this. With the new option, you can create up to two additional profiles (Add additional profile), which is an essential part of the subscription, but is still separate from it. Unlike traditional profiles, profiles created in this way can have their own password and do not count towards the screen limit. However, it is billed by Netflix, for which it charges a total of $3, around 1,000 HUF, in addition to the original subscription fee.

So Netflix doesn’t want to punish everyone for cheating, but instead offers an alternative that benefits both parties. If this succeeds, it will be introduced in the rest of the world, including Hungary.
Standard and Premium account holders can still share their account with someone else, but only with the number specified in the contract.
