Mike Birbiglia has his latest comedy special called The Old Man and the Pool on Netflix. The hour-long collection will premiere on the streamer on November 21.
According to the official tagline, ‘The Old Man and the Pool’ sees Birbiglia “tackling life’s big questions: Why are we here? What’s next? Exactly how much chlorine are they putting in the YMCA’s pool? The show is heading to Netflix after being released in On Broadway from November 13, 2022 to January 15 this year, then in London’s West End from September 12 to October 7.
This is Birbiglia’s fifth special on Netflix, following 2008’s “What I Had to Say Wasn’t Nothing,” 2013’s “My Boyfriend’s My Girlfriend,” 2017’s “Thank God for the Jokes,” and 2019’s “What’s New.” He is also known for writing, directing, and starring in the 2012 film “Sleepwalk With Me” and the 2016 film “Don’t Thing Twice.” Birbiglia has had guest starring roles on series including “Orange Is the New Black,” “Billions,” and “Human Resources.” She appeared in the films “Your Sister’s Sister,” “The Fault in Our Stars,” and “A Man Called.” Otto.”
“The Old Man and the Pool” is directed by Seth Parrish and executive produced by Mike and Joseph Birbiglia along with John Skidmore, Tony Hernandez, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Patrick Catullo and C.F.
News of Birbiglia’s special comes on the 10th anniversary of Netflix’s first-ever comedy special, Aziz Ansari’s “Buried Alive.” Since then, the streamer has released more than 350 stand-up specials, including “Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy” — the first stand-up show ever at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles — and “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” — which became the comedy The most-watched special ever recorded by Nielsen.
