Lightyear Frontier flawlessly realizes its vision of the absurd but utterly peaceful. We cut down trees with a huge chainsaw, but there is no danger in the world that we would use this brutal tool for self-defense. The mechanical tool box also includes two cannons of different sizes: the smaller caliber can be used to plant seeds in cultivated farmland, and the large caliber is used to plant tree seedlings. The various alien life forms on the planet live their days completely independently of us. By feeding them, we guarantee ourselves that the next morning the number of raw materials in the area where we fed the wildlife will be richer.
The game doesn't try to sell a huge world, rather we get a reasonably sized but detailed handcrafted location where distances require a lot of walking, but not so much that you get bored when you reach the desired area. Fast travel is not currently available in any form in the game, and a “return to base” option would be greatly needed.
The sense of discovery is heightened by the arrangement of our garden: it takes days for plants to flourish, but replanting and watering after harvest can take several minutes depending on the size of the garden, as the game moves a lot during the short period. Today, it is therefore better to ignore our garden if we do not need raw materials from it.
