NILES — A popular comedian and culinary influencer is gearing up to film his first-ever comedy special this weekend, and downtown Niles is hosting fun nights.

Jacoby Ray is filming four performances of his upcoming Netflix special on Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11 with Justin Beddick at the Underground Laugh Lounge, and tickets are available now. Each night will include two shows at 7 and 9 p.m

A social media personality and stand-up comedian known for his comedy, dance videos, and food content, Jacoby Ray has amassed over 2 million followers across his Facebook, Tik-Tok, and Instagram accounts. A barbecue enthusiast, Ray launched a business called Meat So Horny, which offers a variety of dry rubs, hot sauces and smoked salts.

For ULL co-owner Sheila Koppel, making Niles an entertainment destination is what Underground Laugh Lounge is all about.

“We can’t do it every time, but bringing a big name to a small town is what we do it for,” she said. “You’ll find people coming from Indy, Kalamazoo, Chicago, Grand Rapids; I’m looking forward to it.”

Since it opened its doors in SeptemberKoebel said the feedback she has received regarding ULL has been positive.

“Everyone loved it,” Koeppel said. “Every week, you have a different comedian. We have a wide range of comedians who come to us, from clean to R-rated comedy. There’s something for everyone.”

The Study, a bar located on the second floor of the building that serves a variety of whiskeys, cocktails, beer and wine, has managed to carve out its own niche in the community, Koppel said.

“It’s not a bar, but I’m amazed at how many people will stay for two or three hours to have a drink by the fire and relax,” she said. “They’re like ‘It feels good.’ They’ve had a long day, and we make them a nice drink and listen to jazz and the fireplace. “It’s like a home away from home for them.”

Tickets can be purchased online at underlaughlounge.com.
