From the samples taken from the mortuary bone repository in Siksfervar, two members of the Arpad house have been identified by researchers at the Hungarian Research Institute, who also identified the Hunyadi family’s ancestry from the bones of Janos Corvin and his family, the Minister of Human Resources announced. Miklos Kasler noted that research in archeology in Hungary began in two directions:

  • Population genetic research began in Szeged,
  • And the National Cancer Institute began researching the genetic inventory of the Arpad strain, identifying III. Pedigree of King Bella.

The Hungarian Research Institute combined these two research directions, complementing them with the results of other disciplines, so that they achieved scientifically grounded results free of preconceptions in a short time.

The minister added.

Gábor Horváth-Lugossy, Director-General of the Hungarian Research Institute, said their scientific publications on the identification of the Árpád family resting in Oscar Székesfehérvár and the genetic stock of the Hunyadi family are currently under review and expected to be published in the near future months.

As he pointed out, the precedent for the bone marrow research was an initiative of Miklós Kásler, National Institute of Oncology III. He determined the genetic stock of Arpad from Bella’s bones. Thus, it became possible to examine the archaeological remains found in Siksfervar, the remains of St. Ladislaus, and the bones of Andrew I at Tihany.

In the laboratory of the Hungarian Research Institute, the latest available molecular technology has been developed, with which they can read a whole series of genetic material from bones that are still up to two thousand years old. Not only can they examine the Y chromosome and the mitochondria, but they can also determine the sequence of any somatic chromosome, and with this technological innovation they can pinpoint the relationships accurately.

The remains of hundreds of people have been excavated in the mortuary

Miklós Kásler said that the remains of about nine hundred people were excavated in the ossuarium in Székesfehérvár, where the complete genetic material of 204 samples has already been processed, and 102 samples are being processed.

The aim of the research is to identify their wives, relatives, and kings of mixed houses, as well as the male members of the House of Arbad. Therefore, in the later stages of the work, they will try to include additional samples, for example, the bones of Karoli Robert and relatives of Lagos Nagy in Naples.
