According to the announcement, the university’s specialists recently performed six successful operations using ureteroscopy controlled by the ILY robot developed in France. Using robot technology, surgery can be performed accurately and safely even in the most difficult and complex cases – The university’s press center told MTI on Wednesday.

In recent years, a large number of flexible ureteroscopy has been performed in the clinic, when a special thin endoscope is inserted through the urethra and bladder, thereby approaching stones in the renal pelvis and renal pelvis. During the operation, small stones are removed, and large stones are crushed with a laser so that they are excreted from the patient’s body with urine.

Many years of practice have made it possible for urology clinic specialists to work meticulously with robot-assisted technology. Demonstration operations using the ILY robot developed in France were performed in the clinic for the first time in Hungary, and six operations to remove kidney stones were performed in the first days of October.

Doctor can focus better

The announcement quoted Giola Drabek, who performed the operations, as saying: In surgeries that are not performed with the help of a robot, the operator maintains and controls the equipment, the robot completely replaces this task. The doctor performing the operation does not need to hold the endoscopic device, only to control the movement of the robot, so the specialist does not get tired during long operations and can focus better.

The device provided by the French company and compatible with all flexible ureteroscopes in use today allows accurate and safe intervention, and the operation can be safely performed even in the most complex cases

According to the clinic’s specialist, among the six surgeries performed in recent days, there was also a more complex case when a stone in the horseshoe kidney had to be removed in a hard-to-reach place. However, with the robot, it was possible to precisely reach the stone and break the stone in a stable manner. For the interventions, they also obtained high-frequency laser equipment from Olympus, which can be used to crush stones very quickly.

The surgeries performed at the urology clinic, which is unique in Hungary, were successful, the patients did not develop any complications and were able to go home the day after the operation.
