Installed capacities increased by another 1,100 MW in the last year alone, and now exceed 4,200 MW in Hungary. Modernizing and increasing the flexibility of the power grid could not keep up with the extraordinary pace of growth. Therefore, in the fall, temporary restrictions had to be put in place to feed electricity that was not used locally into the public grid.
In addition to nuclear power, renewables will continue to play a prominent role in meeting domestic electricity needs. Government measures will greatly promote the expansion of clean solar energy capabilities.
Among other things, tenders supporting the construction of industrial energy storage facilities for batteries totaling 120 billion forints from the spring are increasing the use of weather-dependent renewable energy sources.
