Index - Abroad - La Palma Island has grown by ten hectares due to a volcanic eruption

The area of the island of La Palma has increased by about 10 hectares due to the lava flow from the Cumbre Vieja volcano, which has been operating for ten days. Volcano September 19 after 50 years Reactivated.

MTI now writes that glowing lava did indeed reach the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday night, seeping from a steep rock wall into the water about 100 meters away. The lava, which reached about a thousand degrees Celsius, petrified and then formed a small peninsula with a width of 500 meters where it interacted with an ocean of about 20 degrees Celsius.

The Spanish National Research Institute (CSIC) also posted a recording of this on its Twitter page:

The poisonous gases emitted at the confluence of lava and salty sea water were quickly released into the sea by the strong northeastern winds, thus posing no danger to the inhabitants of the area.

Volcanologists are of the opinion that the fact that lava reached the ocean has somewhat relieved the situation on the island, as it also reduced the risk of hot lava spreading to the island.
