Sony's new flagship phone, the Xperia 1 VI, will be presented on May 17, that is, Friday of this week. We've heard several times about the device coming with a refreshed display that's more in line with current trends, meaning that Sony will drop the 21:9 aspect ratio and switch to 19.5:9 instead. A short teaser has arrived confirming this initial information.
The Japanese manufacturer has turned to a new display technology for the Xperia 1 VI, which will likely feature the same BRAVIA panel used in this year's BRAVIA TVs. The Japanese manufacturer will replace the 21:9 aspect ratio used in previous Xperia 1 models with a more traditional 19.5:9 ratio, and the previous 4K resolution will also be dropped based on rumours.
Two features that made previous Sony flagships unique are gone. It is not yet known to what extent the changes will bring the new product closer to customers, but they are certainly among the goals set. Otherwise, the previous camera apps won't be merged either, but rather combined into one app, and it will be much simpler and cleaner than before.
In the video, they also point out the ability to zoom, partly confirming previous news that the phone comes with a better telephoto camera (up to 7x lossless zoom).
Going back a little to the display: the panel size is expected to be 6.5 inches, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset could be used in its housing, paired with up to 16 GB of RAM. We're just a few days away from the official announcement of the Sony Xperia 1 VI, and until then we're sure we'll get more teasers that could confirm some of the previous unofficial rumors about the smartphone.
