We know very well that the job of a Formula One driver is not just to get in the car when they need it, and then get out and hide from the public eye. Constant interviews, pre-media appearances, sponsorships, and marketing events drain many people’s energy.
While some drivers love this, many are likely to race with it, wishing they could compete in F1 anonymously because they are driven to show what they know at the highest level, so Russell would be happy to leave out certain activities.
“I am a racer, so I just want to race, and if I wanted to be selfish, I would just do it. Of course, this is so much more than that,” he said independentto me. “Sponsorship events are important because we won’t be able to get them out of the field through our sponsors and partners.”
“In some ways, you were born to race, not to appear in front of the cameras, but on a certain level, you are almost expected to do both.” The Formula One lifestyle may seem luxurious as they travel from one country to another and Russell plans to move to Monte Carlo.
However, the British also said that pilots do not have time during the weekend to explore the country, so one day they want to walk and travel freely in the world. “Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of magic, it could be a lot worse, but we don’t go see the city or the fancy restaurants.”
“The world is a wonderful place and I wish I could have the opportunity to travel around it freely, but the priority right now is to be the best pilot possible.” If Russell doesn’t like interviews and being in front of the cameras yet, he can tie his pants more next year because as a Mercedes rider, he will always be in the spotlight.
His teammate would be Lewis Hamilton who he looked up to as a young national of his era. “At the time, he was my role model. Next year, I will have the amazing privilege of facing my best ever, learning from him, and hopefully becoming a better rider by doing so.”
