Hungary is not doing enough for the land

Germanwatch, the NewClimate Institute and CAN have conducted an analysis of the relationship between countries’ climate plans and the evolution of their emissions – the report does not shed a good light on Hungary, but the European Union is doing very well. However, experts warn: the result is interesting, but not necessarily significant, since there was an epidemic in countries last year, which certainly delayed climate action.

to 2022 Climate Change Performance Index (Climate Change Performance Index, CCPI) says Scandinavia perform the best, with Denmark, Sweden and Norway ranked fourth to sixth. One might wonder why this performance is – because the first three places are completely empty, since there is no country in the “too high” category, where no one has fulfilled their obligations well. as it means

No country is currently on the path to 1.5°C warming.

Scandinavia has been placed in such a niche for its investments in renewable energy, and Norway has been given a “very high” category in this category. In terms of renewable energy, Iran and Russia performed the worst, with the United Kingdom and Morocco topping the list. The British also rank well in the greenhouse gas reduction category.

Australia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea are the worst overall – perhaps unsurprisingly that three countries listed are also trying to block a deal at COP26, at least according to expert analysis. Australia has very low ratings in almost all categories.

The Netherlands and Greece recorded the biggest improvement overall, while Croatia, Belarus and Algeria were the biggest decliners. Among the G20, only the European Union was among the best performers, Britain and India also in the lead. Six of the G20 countries performed very poorly.

Hungary and Slovenia were the worst performing EU countries this year.

We didn’t do well in the climate policy category either: While Scandinavia and Morocco lead here, closely with the Netherlands, France and Portugal, Hungary is among the worst-performing EU countries in a company like Romania, Bulgaria or Poland. Australia, Brazil and Algeria came last.

China, the planet’s largest emitter, is also falling toward the end, with its biggest problems being very high emissions and very low energy efficiency.

Diana Orji ForsatzOne of the chairs of the IPCC Tripartite Working Group told 24.Hu: These data are good for information and interest, but not worth drawing far-reaching conclusions from them. On the one hand, the method of calculating is very subjective, and on the other hand, countries that have experienced a pandemic in the past year are not very fortunate to take this as a starting point.
