Goods coming from and destined for Britain are now exempt from customs duties

The EORI number must be requested from NAV to the customs department.

The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) said products coming into and out of Britain have become subject to customs duties, as the United Kingdom withdrew from the European Union on February 1, 2020 and exited the European Union’s customs union on January 1. Hungarian merchants, businesses and citizens could face major changes due to Brexit.

As he wrote, the UK’s exit from the European Union also means that it will be considered a third country, that is, a country outside the European Union, effective January 1, 2021. An exception to this is Northern Ireland, where customs, value-added tax and statistical legislation continue to apply in the European Union. As a result, in the case of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), exit and entry rules changed, and products coming from or destined for Great Britain also became subject to customs duties.

To manage customs, NAV must request an EORI number, which can be done in person or through representation. Products arriving in Hungary from outside the European Union, in this case from Great Britain, and leaving Hungary for Great Britain must present a customs declaration, as this is a requirement for import and export from January 2021. NAV implements customs procedures on the basis of the goods declaration submitted.

It’s good for individuals to know that if they order goods from Britain or import goods from there on their journey, from January 2021, it will be considered an import from outside the European Union. It is therefore advisable to know the customer information available on the NAV website before ordering or traveling. If someone does not want to deal with their customs affairs, they can assign a customs representative instead.
