Donald Trump’s criminal case was scheduled for trial in the middle of the campaign period

The date for the criminal trial of Donald Trump has been set: the trial will take place on March 25, 2024, that is, during the campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. And the Manhattan court announced the date for the former US president, who is likely to win the Republican primaries and run again for the US presidency in the elections next fall.

They forced us a date of March 25th, in the middle of the primary season. This is called election interference

Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

The politician has long claimed that there is a political witch hunt against him aimed at bringing down the main candidate of the Republican Party. Even before the trial date was announced, March 2024 promised to be an especially busy one for him, as Republican contenders visit US states one by one as part of their primary campaign.

Donald Trump was indicted at the end of March, and a few days later 34 counts of “falsifying business reports” were announced, to which the former president pleaded not guilty. According to the suspicion, during his 2016 campaign, the Republican politician paid $130,000 in campaign money through his attorney to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about the intimate relationship that allegedly took place between the two ten years earlier. This is the first time in US history that a sitting or former president has been subjected to criminal prosecution. And not only Democrats, but also Ron DeSantis, who is considered to be Trump’s biggest rival in intra-party competition, could benefit from all this – although he has not yet officially announced his candidacy.

The Florida governor is expected to announce on Twitter on Wednesday, 6 p.m. local time, that he will be taking part in the battle for the nomination, in which there are already six participants.

According to a polling firm Rasmussen Reports conducted in mid-May, 62 percent of Republican voters support Trump, while only 17 percent support DeSantis. If he faced former President Joe Biden in the fall of 2024, Trump would win 44.2%, while his former opponent would get 42.8%, according to RealClearPolitics polls.

By the way, the aforementioned criminal proceedings are only part of the recently launched investigations against Trump. Among other things, he was accused of sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll, a former employee of the American ELLE magazine, in the mid-1990s, and years later. In addition, Congress is conducting an investigation with the Department of Justice over Donald Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021 siege of the US legislature, in which five people were killed.

The Wall Street Journal report Donald Trump can be expected to be charged in the house search case as well.

On the initiative of the Department of Justice, FBI agents appeared without warning on August 8 at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where they searched every room. Investigators have seized dozens of boxes of documents, records show, including classified and top-secret documents from the Trump presidency. The DOJ’s criminal investigation is focused on, among other things, whether information affecting national security was misused. The special prosecutor assigned to conduct the investigation, Jack Smith, is said to have completed obtaining evidence, interviewing witnesses and nearly all employees of the Florida property.

We’re dealing with the same Department of Justice that covered Joe Biden’s bribery scandal and has been staunchly silent about investigations into his son, Hunter Biden.

– said Jesse Bailey Waters, political commentator for the American news channel Fox News. He said the same agents who freed the current US president may soon arrest his potential adversary.
