The US Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday afternoon: Alejandro Mallorcas, Chief of Staff, based on a joint decision with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Croatia is included in the Visa Waiver Program.
According to the announcement, by December 1 at the latest, ESTA will already allow Croatian citizens to apply for a permit to enter the United States – for business or tourism – without a visa for up to 90 days.
“The inclusion of Croatia in the Visa Waiver Program today is an important recognition of the two countries’ common economic and security interests” – Mayorkas, who also congratulated Croatia on becoming the 40th member of the Visa Waiver Program after it met the strict conditions.
In order for a country to be included in the program, it must, among other things, take credible measures against terrorism, have a reliable law enforcement system, protect borders and other institutional systems that ensure security. Another requirement is that the rejection rate for nonimmigrant visa applications must be less than 3 percent. This last condition has been fulfilled by Croatia.
