The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has issued an urgent appeal to the Canadian government, requesting the expedited issuance of entry visas for participants in the prestigious Candidates Tournament scheduled to be held in Toronto. Delays in obtaining visas for players have raised concerns about the smooth running of the event and the potential disruption it may cause.

“The most prestigious tournament in the chess world, the FIDE Candidates, which will determine the contenders for the title of world champion in both the open and women's categories, is scheduled to take place from April 3 to 22 in Toronto, Canada. “For the first time in chess history, The prestigious tournament is hosted in Canada, in recognition of the country's growing role in the world of chess,” she wrote in a statement released on X.
