A 21-year-old man was arrested in the US on Thursday and is believed to be linked to leaked US intelligence documents, which thousands of people had access to, according to reports. The New York Times.
The newspaper says the man’s name is Jacques Teixeira, and he worked for the intelligence unit at the Air National Guard base in Massachusetts. Teixeira is said to have been the administrator of the Discord server called Thug Shaker Central where the leaked documents first appeared. The server consists of young adults and teens who talk about guns, racist memes, and video games.
US Attorney General Merrick Garland said Teixeira is accused of illegally sharing classified defense information. He also said that there was no disturbance during the arrest. A few months ago, authorities said, an online user of the group uploaded hundreds of pages of Secret Service briefings to the chat group. Members of the affected group, Thug Shaker Central, told The Times they had no intention of making the documents available to the wider public, they just wanted to discuss the contents among themselves.
