Announcing the Honor MagicOS 8.0 interface

Honor announced the Magic OS 8.0 interface at a specially dedicated event in China. The new version of the interface is based on Android 14 and includes a large Magic LM language model with 7 billion parameters, which runs directly on devices. The new interface is touted as anticipating user intent and proactively recommending services and apps based on how we use the device.

Another interface innovation is Magic Portal, which simultaneously applies Honor's large language model and the aforementioned intent-based UI to connect different apps and services based on context. Honor demonstrated this with an example where we drag an accommodation reservation from the Messages app to the Map app, and then we get a route plan to get to the location.

Magic Portal supports multimedia input, so it can track texts, images, gestures or even eye movements on supported Honor mobile phones. For example, you can also tap an image of a dress, tap it, and then drag it to the side, so you can actually search within shopping apps. Honor also confirmed that the top 100 apps will support this feature in China, but there are no details yet on whether these features and options will be ported to other regions.

In addition, MagicOS 8.0 provides new options for customizing the home screen, improves the speed of the UI, and the UI now requires fewer resources thanks to Honor developers, who have made many improvements hidden in the background. There is a new Shake To Block Ads function, which can be used to block annoying pop-ups, and a system-wide option called Parallel Spaces, thanks to which we can display the same application in two copies on the screen.
