Google releases new versions of Android every year, and for the past 11 years, they've been released between August and November. However, this is said to change with Android 16.
The actual release of Android 15 can be expected on October 15 at the earliest on compatible Pixel devices. And based on the latest news, Google is already working on making version 16 available to the public much sooner than usual. This could happen sometime in the second quarter of 2025, i.e. between April and June.
Google might mess up its schedule a bit with this, if it really decides that way, but the idea is not at all impossible, as the latest Pixel smartphones were presented in August instead of October of this year – though, also unprecedentedly, with a system Operating on Android 14, as version 15 was not quite ready at that time. If Android 16 is released by the end of June, and Google's new flagship phones are introduced again in August, there's a good chance that Pixel 10 devices will already run on the new system.
Experts obtained information about the Android 16 release from documents intended for developers included in System 15 by Google, as well as from part of the Android Open Source Project patches. Since everything found so far is just a hint, the final scenario could still change a lot. Android 14 and 15 have been delayed due to some last-minute issues, and the same could happen with version 16.
