Prosecutors said one of the arrest warrants for billionaire Sohail Bahwan, who owns a dealer in Oman, said prosecutors helped use Renault funds for Ghosn’s personal use. Other arrest warrants have been issued for the two sons of Bahwan and the former CEO of Suhail Bahwan Automobiles.
Carlos Ghosn has always worked with French judicial officials
His lawyer, Jean Tamalt, described the arrest warrant as “surprising.”
Ghosn, the former head of Nissan and Renault, fled Japan in late 2019 after facing allegations of financial misconduct. By the way, Japan also has an arrest warrant for Ghosn, but the former auto giant is currently in Lebanon, and does not extradite its citizens. The motoring legend also holds citizenship in Lebanon, France and Brazil.
Since Ghosn’s escape from Japan, his main legal risk has largely shifted to France, where he is accused of buying a yacht with Renault money as well as financing his wife’s lavish birthday party.
