Sacpo, which operates the airport, said that four wheels of a passenger plane were punctured during landing at Bergamo Airport near Milan on Tuesday, which led to the airport being temporarily closed due to what happened.
None of the more than 160 passengers and crew members on board the plane that took off from Barcelona were harmed, but the plane closed the runway for landing and take-off, which also suffered damage that caused traffic to stop.
According to reports, the captain was able to stop his plane on the runway after four wheels on the rear landing gear were hit by a flat tire. Although there was no serious damage to the plane as a result of what happened, the fire department evacuated those on board.
Sakpo said passengers should now expect delays and cancellations. It is not yet clear when the airport will reopen. There was damage to a 450-metre-long section of the runway, which must be repaired first.
Bergamo International Airport is the third airport in the Milan catchment area, along with Malpensa and Linate. The airport, which is smaller than its peers, is located about 45 kilometers from Milan and is mainly used by low-cost airlines.
