27 Chinese fighter jets flew to Taiwan

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said that Taiwan quickly mobilized its aircraft to repel 27 Chinese aircraft in its air defense identification zone.

In its latest update, the ministry said 22 planes crossed the central line of the Taiwan Strait, which separates the autonomous island from China.

Taiwan, which China considers its territory, said it has sent aircraft and deployed missile systems to “monitor” Chinese activities in its air defense designation zone.

The Taiwan Defense Ministry added that the latest Chinese mission included 16 Chinese Su-30 fighter jets and 11 other aircraft.

A source familiar with Taiwan’s security plans told Reuters that the 22 planes that crossed the center line did not fly very far from the Chinese side to the unofficial buffer zone. In general, however, the planes of either side do not cross the midline.

The move comes after Taiwan said some Chinese military operations have taken place within 12 nautical miles of the Taiwanese coast.
